Escaped Augusta inmate captured 10 months later
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An escaped inmate in Augusta has been caught after being on the run since June 2023, according to authorities.
On June 3, 2023, 11:49 p.m. deputies responded to 601 Taylor Street, the Augusta Transitional Center regarding an escape inmate, authorities say.
Upon arrival, deputies say Russell Taylor, 41, was transported in the company van to 2607 Deans Bridge Road, Econo Auto Painting, for work at approximately 7:34 a.m. in unknown clothing and shoes.
The complainant stated the company van went to pick up the suspect from the Econo Auto Painting at approximately 5:11 p.m. when the van arrived, authorities say.
The complainant stated he received a call advising him that Taylor wasn’t there for pick up, according to authorities.
The complainant stated the company van went back at out to Econo Auto Painting at approximately 7 p.m. and Taylor still wasn’t there for pick up, authorities.
The complainant stated he called 911 to make a report of the inmate that escaped from Econo Auto Painting.
Taylor has been charged with escape, according to jail records.
