University officials said South Carolina Law Enforcement Division senior special agent Richard Johnson, Ph.D., will become campus police chief Monday.

Chief Deputy Chandra Gibbs said there was a mix of adults and teenagers at the unofficial after-prom party on Antioch Road ― and alcohol was involved.
Gibbs said a mother was trying to create a safe space for teens to celebrate after the Lake Marion High School Prom. An incident report said the mother told deputies she threw the party so the teenagers “would not be in the streets.”
Shortly after 1 a.m., the mother turned the music that was playing off and urged all those in attendance to leave. Moments after that, gunshots were fired.
