Orangeburg County residents rally in honor of slain 6-year-old
NORTH, S.C. (WIS) - The Orangeburg County community ed the life and legacy of a 6-year-old boy on Saturday who was shot and killed back in 2022.
Exactly two years ago on Sunday, Winston Hunter was gunned down while watching TV inside his home. Authorities said he was killed in a drive-by shooting after two men shot into the wrong home. They fired more than 20 bullets into the Hunter family home.
Since Hunter’s death, his mother Courtney Hunter has made it her mission to reduce youth gun violence in Orangeburg County and across the Palmetto State.

Murder suspects and victims seem to be getting younger and younger, if local cases are any indication.

“Gun violence don’t effect just the families, we feel the pain. But also the surrounding communities feel the pain too,” Hunter said. “I want these children to understand to put these guns down, because, its senseless, it does not solve a problem. It creates more issues.”
One way she’s does that is by organizing a yearly event known as the Through the Eyes of Winston Stop the Gun Violence parade.
The two men pleaded guilty to Winston Hunter’s murder last month and were sentenced to life in prison.
