Charleston man dies after chemical release at Georgia warehouse facility
EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WCSC/WTOC) - A Charleston man working as a contractor died Friday morning after a chemical release at a Georgia cold warehouse facility.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as Lawrence Wyatt, 54, WTOC-TV reported.
Effingham County Fire Rescue responded to the Americacold facility at around 8:20 a.m. Friday where an employee had been reported as unresponsive.
Authorities said a chemical pesticide used to treat fruits and vegetables was released. Crews worked with EMS for about seven hours to filter the area, going into the building approximately every 30 minutes to test the air.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working to determine whether the pesticide was involved in the man’s death.
Wyatt’s cause of death has not been released and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
