Paine College grads mark milestones at commencement
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - There are celebrations going on across the country for college graduates – and that’s true for students here at home, including at Paine College.
Their commencement speaker on Sunday was Stephen Benjamin, a former mayor of Columbia and senior adviser to President Joe Biden.
He advised students to stay focused – much like their time learning through the COVID pandemic and unrest at home and abroad.
We caught up with a graduate right after the ceremony.
“Today has meant a lot, since I never expected myself to graduate from college or even go to college,” she said. “I’m the first in my family to receive a bachelor’s degree and the first to graduate from college. I’m breaking generational curses.”
She is going to stay in school for her master’s degree – and she encouraged those still working to get a degree to keep going even when it gets hard.
