On Your Side: How to find summer child-care options
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The countdown is on for summer and parents are looking for options to keep their kids educated and entertained.
We did some homework to help you find the right and affordable fit for your child.
Experts say a little research and time goes a long way, but it also helps to have one-stop shops like CSRA Kids.
“Camps are starting to fill up especially as we start moving toward the end of May. School is going to be letting out soon so a lot of parents are kind of making some last-minute decisions about camps,” said Brandy Mitchell, owner of CSRA Kids.
In her Summer 2024 guide, Mitchell breaks every down by category, from sports camps to dance camps. She also includes feature camps like the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club.
“I would definitely recommend some of the larger camp providers because they have larger numbers. Their summer camps tend to be a little bit cheaper. But also there are some small camps out there that do provide summer camps for kids. You can go to our website we have a link that says, summer camps are $150,” said Mitchell.
The Kroc Center offers scholarships to families based on income. Their summer camp is for ages 5 to 12 and costs $170 per week.
Right now, they have what they call an early bird special where you can purchase all 10 weeks of their summer camp and get 20% off.
Janelys Villata, Salvation Army marketing and public relations manager said: “In addition to summer camp, we do offer what we call pool es, summer pool es. So if you don’t need someone to look over your kids the entire day, maybe you have a nanny or something, they can come to bring the kids to the pool, we do two-hour time slots Monday through Saturday. And so you can get in the pool for two hours. It’s $10 per person. And that’s for all ages.”
The Kroc Center extended its hours this year for summer camp from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
They said their goal is to better help those parents who don’t live close by and travel for work.
