Coroner IDs 2 teens killed in crash during Edgefield County chase

EDGEFIELD, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two teens were identified on Tuesday as the victims of a crash during a police chase, according to the Edgefield County Coroner.

Joshua Brooks, 18, of Beech Island and Ashlee Price, 19, of Aiken were both pronounced dead on the scene, according to Coroner David Burnett.

Two people were killed Monday afternoon as a enger vehicle and log truck collided during a police chase.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the crash happened 1:28 p.m., just two miles south of Edgefield.

Edgefield County Sheriff Jody Rowland confirmed the incident, which a witness said happened just before 2 p.m. in front of the National Wild Turkey Federation along Highway 25.

Rowland said two people were killed in the crash and one person was sent to a hospital.

He confirmed that the crash happened during a police chase and said the matter had been turned over to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say a 2023 Western star tractor trailer was traveling south on Highway 25. A 2007 Honda Civic was traveling north on Highway 25, while eluding law enforcement, troopers say.

Troopers say the 2007 Honda Civic traveled off the right side of the road, attempting to an unknown vehicle.

The 2007 Honda Civic then reentered the road way traveling left of center, striking tractor trailer head on, officials say.

The driver of the tractor trailer was transported by EMS to an area hospital.

The driver and enger deceased of the Honda Civic have died, according to troopers.

Highway 25 was closed for about seven hours, but was back open just before 10 p.m.

A detour was set up in the afternoon to by the area by taking Rabbit Trail.
