EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - After finishing fourth in the state last year, the Lakeside boys golf team made their mission to get back to the state championships this year.

The Panthers came into Tuesday’s final round seven strokes back of the lead in third.

But a little can-do attitude and some elbow grease helped them climb the board, take the top spot and win the class 6A state championship in exciting fashion.

Sophomore Hamilton Coleman won the individual state title, shooting a 70 in round one and a 69 in Tuesday’s final round.

The Panthers won their first state title in boys golf in over a decade by four strokes.

The Greenbrier girls golf team came into this year looking to defend their crown in Class 5A. The Lady Wolfpack finished seven strokes back of the lead as the State Runner-Ups this year.

Greenbrier cut the deficit to three at one point, but, McIntosh held on to win. Sophomore Adyson Lukich led the way for the Pack, finishing as the Individual State Runner-Up.

Some of our local teams shined in Class 1A as well. The Aquinas boys team came in second place, in 1A-Division Two. Swainsboro’s Colten Lewis finished as the Individual State Runner-Up in 1A-Division Two.

Congratulations to all of our local golfers for balling out this season!
