McCormick prison guard accused of failing to report relationship
McCORMICK, S.C. (WIS) - A correctional officer who worked at McCormick Correctional Institution was arrested and fired on Monday after state officials said she failed to report sexual misconduct.
Angel Monique Butler, 23, of Hephzibah, Ga., was arrested by the South Carolina Department of Corrections Inspector General.
Arrest warrants said she knew about the relationship between an officer and inmate but failed to report it to the proper authorities, according to a news release from SCDC. By law, correctional officers are required to report this type of behavior.
While the name of the officer involved in the relationship was redacted from the warrant, SCDC said Jaiona Zyrelle Finney was fired and charged with having a sexual relationship with an inmate at the same facility.
Butler was charged with misconduct in office and failure to report sexual misconduct.
