Columbia County school board elects a new member
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Katie Allen was elected to the Columbia County School Board of Education on Tuesday night.
She defeated the incumbent Lee Ann Meyer who held the seat since 2016. Around 180 votes made the difference.
Allen has been outspoken at a majority of board meetings in the past, and now she’ll have a seat where she’s looking to raise test scores and make sure everyone’s voices are heard.
“We want our kids to have a solid academic education,” said Allen. “We want to make sure our tax dollars are well spent to get that and we want to make sure our community’s concerns are making it to the board level discussion and that’s a message so simple, like the ABCs, but it felt like when we were talking with people it felt like the messaged really resonated.”
She’ll be sworn in at the beginning of next year. Until then, she’ll be continuing to talk with the community so she’ll learn what the district needs come January.
