Augusta Commission member Alvin Mason steps down temporarily
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Augusta Commission member Alvin Mason broke the news Tuesday that he’s stepping down temporarily.
He needs to deal with a medical situation, so Francine Scott will take over District 4 in the meantime, city leaders said at Tuesday’s meeting of the commission.
“You’re in good hands with Francine Scott,” Mason said.

After weeks of discussing which company should perform a planned audit of the Augusta Parks and Recreation Department, there’s still no decision.

On June 20, Mason will undergo multiple-level back surgery at Fort Eisenhower.
He’ll be out for at least four to six weeks and up to six months.
He still plans to be a part of the commission in some capacity, possibly through the internet, and fully expects to come back better than ever.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, a proposed audit of the Parks and Recreation Department is going back to the commission’s finance committee next week.
Changes in trash rates were on the consent agenda and were approved.
