‘The best person’: Kin mourn S.C. beachgoer run over by police truck
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The family of a 66-year-old Myrtle Beach woman is mourning her death after tragedy struck while she was relaxing on the beach.
Sandra “Sandy” Schultz-Peters was sitting on the beach Thursday afternoon when witnesses reported she was hit by an Horry County Police Department truck patrolling the beach.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the truck was coming onto the beach from the Nash Street beach access when it turned onto the sand and hit Schultz-Peters.
Beachgoers rushed to her aid, some even helped lift the truck off her, but she later died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
In the wake of the tragedy, her family is taking the time to share all the things they will , love, and cherish about her.
Her brother, David Schultz, said Sandy was well-known around the beach and the Market Common community because she walked every day, sometimes close to ten miles with her two dogs Luther and Sophie.
Schultz said he saw her the morning she was killed and that he will miss when she’d stop by to visit him on her long walks.
“That morning that she ed, I was with her three times,” said Schultz.

According to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control, more than 1,000 people die from heat-related illness each year in the U.S. Researchers want to change that.

Her brother also said Sandy was a Nurse Practitioner and she was committed to helping others.
“She is well, well, well missed. God put her on this Earth for a reason I believe and someone took it away and I’ll deal with that down the road. Sandy was probably the best person I ever had in my life,” he said.
Schultz said he’s trying to stay strong through the tragedy.
“It’s killing me, it’s really hurting, really bad. I’m just trying to keep everything together, but I’m the one that’s loosing it the most,” said Schultz.
