Marshal’s office donates free fans to those in need
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Summer officially starts on Thursday, but the temperatures are already climbing.
The Richmond County Marshal’s Office is distributing free fans to provide relief from the Georgia heat to those who may need it.
For people who are older or health-compromised, heat can be deadly.

Kennesaw State University is teaming up with Kroger to ensure college students can access food and other necessities.

The marshal’s office has already collected over 100 fans, beating their record from last year.
They plan to distribute the fans on Tuesday.
“A lot of the elderly, they’re not able to get up or they might not have the means to purchase another fan. They’re on fixed incomes and stuff like that, where we’re just trying to help them out and be able to keep an eye on them and you know, the heat rate where people are dying from heat exhaustion is high. So, we’re just trying to avoid that,” said Lieutenant Omar Rouse.
Although the fan drive is over, they are still accepting donations.
