Here’s why voters decided to knock Sheriff Roundtree out of office
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Wednesday, some Richmond County voters shared why they wanted a new sheriff in town.
As you walk around Augusta, you can see “Vote Gino Brantley” signs posted in local business windows and in front of restaurants.
One restaurant owner believes the reason many businesses Brantley is because of his character.
“He cares about the community and thinks that’s going to be a lot of good,” said PJ Ware, owner of Kitchen Kings.

Looks like there’s going to be a new Richmond County sheriff after Eugene Brantley beat incumbent Richard Roundtree in the primary.

Ware says a lot of good that Brantley has done in his campaign for businesses is .
“He s. The Marshal’s Office came through numerous times and he listens to issues that we have,” said Ware.
Ware and one local pastor believe one problem Augusta has is safety.
“Just make the streets safer you know what I mean,” said Ware.
Pastor Charles Goodman said: “We have a shared vision that we want Augusta to be the best city it can be and the safest city I can be.”
Crowds come out for Augusta’s downtown Juneteenth festival
A few days after the Junenteeth parade, Augusta celebrated the holiday again with a nearly daylong festival Wednesday.

Goodman says making Augusta safer is a work in progress.
“I saw them making the progress anyways and I think it will be a good continuous to allow people to enjoy our city without having to worry if something negative is going to happen,” said Goodman.
Ware believes that Brantley is in office as the new sheriff, allowing the community to have access to elected officials like never before.
“I know we will see more Gino in the city versus before and we did not have access to the higher-ups,” said Ware.
With about a 16% turnout from ed voters, Brantley won by just over 1,000 votes, showing that every single vote matters.
