AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The hottest temperatures of 2024 so far and the hottest temperatures we’ve seen since the first week of July 2023 are forecast for this week. June 2024 is already above average compared to last year’s average high for the month of June and we still have a little under a week before this month wraps up.

We saw some of the hottest maximum temperatures of the year Monday (6/24) at Bush Field and Daniel Field Airports with a high of 98° and 99° - respectively. The peak heat index values were 104° at Bush Field and 102° Daniel Field. These were the hottest temps of the year so far - until Tuesday (6/25).

Bush Field and Daniel Field Airports officially hit 100° and 101° on Tuesday (6/25) making it the hottest day in over two years for Bush Field Airport. The last time we hit 100° there was 6/23/22. The last time we saw temperatures that hot at Daniel Field was back on 8/25/23 when the maximum temperature reached 101°. Thankfully we saw a break in the humidity Tuesday (6/25) with dew points in the 50s and low 60s which allowed heat index values to stay below 101°.

I looked at average highs for the entire month of June and when we typically saw the maximum high temperatures during each June for the past 10 years. Things typically heat up the middle to end of June with a few outlying max temps before the 15th. Our average high for this week in June is 93° - but the hottest average high temperature in Augusta is 94°, which is for the dates July 2nd until August 8th. We technically haven’t reached the hottest part of the year yet, so it is safe to say this is not abnormal for this time of year.
