Barnwell Ponytails sell watermelons ahead of Dixie World Series trip
BARNWELL, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - In late June, the Barnwell Dixie Softball Traditional Ponytails won their third consecutive state championship.
That means, for the third year in a row, Barnwell is sending their all-stars to Louisiana for the Dixie Softball World Series.
The Barnwell Ponytails were the national runners-up in 2022 and finished in third place in 2023.
2 Columbia County softball teams get once-in-a-lifetime experience
A 10U softball team and a 12U softball team from Columbia County have qualified for the Braves Country Championship tournament in Atlanta this weekend.
In an effort to raise money for their trip, the team is going around Barnwell selling watermelons and team hats.
Head Coach Brad Whitehead says a local farmer donated three pallets of watermelons to the teams for their cause.
The Barnwell Ponytails are hitting the road to Louisiana on July 25. Their games begin in the Dixie Softball World Series on July 27.
