Paine College getting $2.25M in federal funds for renovations
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Wednesday, U.S. Sens. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff announced $2.25 million in federal funding coming to Paine College.
The grants awarded to Paine College will be used to address structural repairs and damage as a result of excessive moisture in Epworth Residential Hall that was built in 1925.
Belle-Bennett Residential Hall, built in 1962, will receive extensive restoration and conservation of interior elements.
Funding will underwrite the restoration of Peters Campus Center, which houses the cafeteria, offices, student lounge and recreation areas.
Also, the grant award will address Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations and accessibility for students, staff and visitors in all three buildings.
Program brings military training, health care to local rural counties
Free dental, medical, optometry, behavioral health and vet services are being offered in some of our rural counties, but for a limited time only.

Dr. Cheryl Evans Jones, president of Paine College, said:
“This is a significant milestone in the history of the College. This gives us the opportunity to work towards upgrading facilities to create improved spaces for students’ living and learning environments. Thank you to all of the team who worked on the proposals or assisted in any way to secure funding for Paine College.”
The federal funding is made possible by annual government funding legislation championed by the Democratic Georgia senators.
“Founded in the post-Civil War era to educate and uplift Black men and women and help heal the ails of a nation, Paine College has been steadfast in developing scholars into leaders their communities need,” Warnock said.
Ossoff said: “I will never stop working on behalf of Georgia’s HBCUs. Senator Reverend Warnock and I are pleased to deliver this funding to Paine College.”
The federal funding is being istered from the National Park Service and is part of a larger $10,670,000 investment in 15 projects in eight states as part of the Historic Preservation Fund’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant program.
Young golfers learn to love the game at AU Summer Camp
Augusta University’s men’s and women’s golf programs have had a lot of success over the years, and every summer they hold camps for all the young golfers across the CSRA.

The grant program focuses on the repair of historic structures on the campuses of historically Black colleges and universities like Paine.
Congress appropriated funding for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Grant Program in Fiscal Year 2023 through the Historic Preservation Fund.
