AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Wellstar MCG launched their “on the go primary care” mobile van just two weeks ago.

It will be traveling through multiple counties providing certain services that you would normally get at a clinic or hospital.

The things you would go to your primary care doctor’s office for can now be treated in a place that may be more convenient to get to.

“We can treat chronic conditions like hypertension, like hyperlipidemia. We can do wellness visits; we can do well-child visits. We can do ER and hospital follow-ups. We can do basically your preventative maintenance,” said Jennie Welch, Family Nurse Practitioner with Wellstar MCG Health.

The mobile van will be located in underserved communities throughout Burke, Richmond and Columbia counties.

“There are a lot of people who don’t have access to health care, and it could be due to one of the many social determinants of health. Things like lack of transportation, lack of financial abilities, maybe just access to a health care clinic,” said Welch.

On Wednesday, Wellstar partnered with Good Shepherd Baptist Church to serve people in the area.

Henry Baptiste, a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, said: “Some of our residents in this area don’t have mobility or transportation, so with the unit being here, it really helps address that issue with not being able to get to a physician or to a hospital. That we are right here in their backyard or back door.”

Opening date set for new FreshTake supermarket in Augusta

An opening date is now scheduled for the new FreshTake supermarket on Washington Road at the former site of Whole Foods.

FreshTake is set to open Aug. 30

at Good Shepherd Baptist Church say it’s something they are happy to be a part of.

“To be a part of a church that cares for the community is very important because that is what Jesus Christ wants us to do. To be of service to those who are not as fortunate as some of us are,” said Veronica Harris, a member of the church.

Wellstar’s “on the go primary care” mobile van will be at different locations each week.

On Wednesday, five people received care.

They accept insurance or will bill people for the services they receive.

They will be back at Good Shepherd on July 24 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
