39-year-old ID’d in 1 of 2 fatal crashes in South Carolina

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Aiken County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of a crash on Ascauga Lake Road on Tuesday morning.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables identified 39-year-old Jesus Trinidad-Rosales as the victim of the crash on Sunday.

Ables says Trinidad-Rosales was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the 900 block of Ascauga Lake Road near Chalk Bed Road at 7:50 p.m.

A 2010 Nissan Maxima was traveling north on Ascauga Lake Road when it went off the right side of the road, hitting a mailbox and a tree, according to troopers.

The driver was the only person in the car, and he died at the scene from blunt-force injuries around 8:30 p.m., according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office

The crash is under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Early Tuesday morning, two separate crashes just minutes apart on Atomic Road caused traffic, according to South Carolina Department of Transportation.

At 5:25 a.m., a minor crash caused traffic on Atomic Road near Roundtree Road in Jackson.

Traffic was still slow as of 7:28 a.m., according to SCDOT.

Around 8 a.m. the scene had been cleared.

Just minutes before, dispatch says the call came in around 5:23 a.m. for a crash on Atomic Road and Old Jackson Highway.

Deputies were still directing traffic, and dispatch says Atomic Road was blocked as of 5:52 a.m.

According to South Carolina Department of transportation, the crash caused a back-up in traffic.

The scene was cleared as of 7:30 a.m., according to SCDOT.

Orangeburg County

One person has died after a crash on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County on Monday.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 6:10 p.m. near the 148 mile marker, eight miles north of Orangeburg.

Troopers say a 2013 tractor trailer was traveling west on I-26 when they traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver of the tractor trailer succumbed to their injuries on scene, according to troopers.
