Aiken continues to see a boom in population, business
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - South Carolina is growing in population.
A study found the Palmetto State is one of most popular places people are moving, and one of those cities is in the CSRA – Aiken.
Aiken has a 2024 population of 33,216 and a growth rate of 0.82% a year, bringing a population increase of 3.35%.
The statistics show the Palmetto State grew 1.7 percent to a population of 5.37 million from 2022 to 2023.
For Aiken, the numbers are only growing from here.
Southern culture is driving this migration movement.
According to census data, Aiken’s population has increased by more than 10 percent since 2010.
“People want to come here because of the weather and the value and the culture,” said Realtor Jamie McLeod.
According to census data, Aiken’s population has increased by more than 10 percent since 2010.
It’s a place Lisa Vanbelt-Diller accidentally fell in love with after moving here in 2018 from Washington, D.C.
Georgia, South Carolina launch crackdown on speeders
Georgia and South Carolina law enforcement will target speeding and aggressive driving as a part of the Operation Southern Slow Down initiative.

“I was like it’s in the middle of nowhere and I came here to shut my mother up then I fell in love with it,” said Vanbelt-Diller.
And the college town feels quickly graduated to calling Aiken home for retirement.
Which for Vanbelt-Diller, makes Aiken the perfect choice.
“It was the perfect location and great people,” she said.
And within recent months, Aiken has started to adjust and plan for the growth of the city.
It’s making a difference in commerce.
Arts in the Heart will return to Broad Street due to construction
The Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival will be returning to Broad Street due to the Telfair Street construction schedule, the Greater Arts Council announced Monday.

If you drive in Aiken, things look a little different with new developments on the way.
“Well as population grows, business are more attracted to the area so business will come in which create more jobs,” said McLeod.
From new developments on Laurens Street to Whiskey Road, local residents are seeing growth everywhere.
That includes places like the redevelopment of the Aiken Mall site.
Along with shopping, the project will cover 44 acres, featuring a walking trail and a park. A new Chicken Salad Chick is already there.
It will also be getting a new name — Aiken Towne Park.
