Local group works to end gun violence among youths in CSRA

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - People in the community are working to help end gun violence among youth in the CSRA.

On Saturday, a group hosted an event, Just Blazen, to talk about their mission.

Boxing group teaches kids to pick up gloves, put guns down

For years now, the Hankinson Boxing Gym in Aiken has shown kids the impact of having a good hobby. “Gloves up, guns down” is their motto.

Young men from ages 11 to 19 could be seen dres in their favorite blazer all while honoring those who lost their lives to gun and drug violence.

Sheriff Candidate-Elect Eugene Brantley was there.

The event was hosted by Tequila Moore and Jasmine Coady, who are both from Augusta.

Coady says, “(We are) Teaching our young to stop the violence, stay in school, and avoid peer pressure with drugs and gun violence. One bad decision can change your life forever.”

This event was in honor of the young men who have lost their lives Anthony Harrison and Za’ire “Toonk” Person, Jabrie Crane, Daquan Bostic, and TJ Hill.
