2 charged in Burke County drug, firearms bust

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two suspects were arrested after the execution of search warrants related to ongoing drug investigations in Waynesboro on Tuesday, according to authorities.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division carried out a series of targeted operations, culminating in the execution of search warrants at two locations central to ongoing drug investigations.

Two men from Augusta and Waynesboro have been charged with felony charges for illegal firearms possession and drug distribution in Savannah on Tuesday.

The operations were part of a coordinated effort by the sheriff’s office to combat illegal drug activities within the community, authorities say.

The Special Response Team of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office secured and searched residences located in the 100 block of Mamie Joe Lane and the 3000 block of Hephzibah Keysville Road, according to authorities.

Deputies say the raids were executed swiftly and safely, resulting in the apprehension of suspects and the seizure of contraband.

Two suspects were arrested, one is facing charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during a crime. The other is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and the same firearm offense, authorities say.

During the searches, investigators confiscated a substantial quantity of illegal substances and assets intended for distribution. The seized items include 1,366 grams of marijuana, $4,420 in cash believed to be proceeds from illicit drug sales, 14 grams of methamphetamine, and four firearms, according to deputies.

These operations are part of the ongoing efforts to disrupt and dismantle illegal drug networks operating in Burke County.
