AUGUSTA, Ga. - A federal judge’s order blocking a Biden istration rule for protecting LGBTQ+ students from discrimination applies to hundreds of schools and colleges across the U.S., including Evans and Greenbrier high schools in Columbia County.

The ruling in Kansas will temporarily block the Biden istration’s new Title IX Rule from being implemented at some South Carolina schools, colleges and universities.

The new rule, which is slated to take effect on Aug. 1, would require schools that receive federal funding to accommodate students’ and teachers’ gender identity. In its release, the attorney general’s office said this ruling allows “biological boys and men that identify as female will be allowed to use girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms.”

Students and teachers would also be required to use others’ preferred pronouns.

“The schools are preliminarily ened from ‘implementing, enacting, enforcing, or taking any action to enforce’ the Title IX Rule until further notice.” a news release from South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said.

The Biden istration has asked a court to “pause portions of that ruling and let the Title IX rule go into effect while the case goes up on appeal.”
