S.C. utility worker and firefighter killed in electrocution on job

ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said a young man has died after being electrocuted on Thursday.

Deputies said they were called to assist the coroner’s office after receiving a call from Anderson Regional t Water System.

According to officials, an employee at the utility appeared to have been electrocuted while working in the facility on Vanguard Road. Emergency medical personnel attempted resuscitation efforts but tragically, the victim, 23-year-old Tristan Garrett Stone of Anderson, ed away.

Chief Deputy Coroner Don McCown said Stone was trying to fix a broken air conditioning unit when he cut a live wire.

The South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health istration is investigating the incident, along with the coroner and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. The coroner said he is not aware of any previous safety issues with the business.

The Hopewell Fire Department in Anderson said Stone ed the volunteer fire department in May 2023.

“He was always eager to learn something new, drive a truck any chance he got, and LOVED running fire calls,” the agency wrote in a Facebook post. “He was a guy who truly loved his fire department and you could always count on.”
