‘Trucks are replaceable; people aren’t’: Driver beats odds
BEECH ISLAND, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A crash on Pine Log Road caused traffic early Friday morning, according to authorities.
Aiken County dispatch says deputies and emergency medical crews were on the scene of a crash at Pine Log Road and Williston Road in Beech Island around 7 a.m.
At the scene was an overturned tow truck from Snide’s Towing.
Graniteville growth has some neighbors raising concerns
As Aiken County grows, some neighbors are speaking out about plans to add more homes to a neighborhood in Graniteville.
Company owner Sara Snide blamed the crash on a recall issue with the tow truck.
She said she learned the truck had lost all brake function and that the driver had been braking for six minutes to no effect – something she was able to with systems installed in the tow truck.
At the stop sign, his defensive driving kicked in and he was able to bring the truck to a stop, Snide said.
She checked and learned there was at least one recall for the truck that could have explained the problem.
Drivers can expect lots of changes to 15th Street in coming weeks
Crews are preparing to change the lane configuration of 15th Street as part of a project to widen the road from two lanes to four lanes.

Fortunately, the driver escaped injury, and Snide is thankful for that.
“Trucks are replaceable; people aren’t,” she said.
“He’s very lucky to be alive,” she said. “He walked away from it. The truck was totaled, obviously.”
