New school year gets started in Aiken, Edgefield counties
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The new school year began Monday in Aiken and Edgefield counties.
Some in Aiken County are still getting accustomed to the year-round school schedule, and there have been mixed emotions posted online about how it’s going.
At Midland Valley High School on Monday, parents and students seemed excited about the new year.
“These are the best kids around the best kept secret in the CSRA,” Midland Valley Principal Sheldon Higgenbottom said.
They’ve been preparing for the first day but had less time.
“You have a little bit of a shorter summer, and just the adjustment is trying to get everything prepared. And to make sure you’re, you know, everything’s good to go. We put in a lot of hours. My counselors, my teachers, everybody just put in a ton of hours getting everything ready,” he said.
