AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the weekend fatal shooting of a 19-year-old in a parking lot on Acapulco Drive in Augusta.

According to Coroner Mark Bowen, Elijah Oliver, 19, of Augusta, was shot at least one time and found in the parking lot of the 2400 block of Acapulco Drive.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday it had arrested:

  • Nasceir Damiano Tywan Mitchell, 18.
  • Devin Anthony Garnett, 19.
  • Terrell Miller, 16.

Mitchell, Garnett and Miller were all charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

According to an arrest warrant for Mitchell, he and the co-defendants were engaged in a shootout, and Oliver was caught in the crossfire.

The warrant states Oliver was shot in his upper torso.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to investigate a report of gunshots at 12:46 a.m. Saturday.

Oliver was pronounced dead at 1:23 a.m. at a hospital, Bowen said.

The parking lot is in an apartment complex a couple of blocks south of the intersection of Deans Bridge Rad and Gordon Highway.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and there is no more information at this time, according to Bowen.

He’s one of the the latest victims in a more than two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 170 lives across the CSRA. Communities large and small and have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River. But as the largest city in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.

Authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs.
