Longtime girlfriend of Brittanee Drexel’s killer enters plea deal in federal case
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WMBF) – The longtime girlfriend of the man who itted to raping and killing a teenager who was on spring break in Myrtle Beach, entered a plea agreement.
Documents filed on Wednesday show that Angel Vause has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of making a false statement to a federal agent.
The FBI claims that Vause lied to agents about her role in Brittanee Drexel’s disappearance.
Drexel was last seen on April 25, 2009 in Myrtle Beach.
Then in May 2022, Moody confessed to law enforcement that he and Vause picked up Drexel who was walking down the street and asked her if she wanted to party and smoke marijuana.
The three ended up at a campsite in Georgetown County where Moody kidnapped, raped and killed the teenager. Her remains were found in the Harmony Township area.
Vause talked with the agency around May 11, 2022, and told an agent she went to pick up keys during the killing but was driving in another direction for a different reason, court documents state.
She also said that Drexel kept her cellphone when the FBI alleges Vause took Drexel’s phone and dumped it between Georgetown and Charleston counties.
Vause added that Drexel voluntarily ed her and Moody, but the FBI said Drexel was actually abducted “under false pretenses.”
Vause has never been charged in Drexel’s case.
The plea agreement shows the maximum sentence for the two counts is 10 years in prison, a $500,000 fine and six years of supervised release.
A plea hearing has been set for 3 p.m. on August 12 at the federal courthouse in Charleston.
As for Moody, he pleaded guilty to raping and killing Drexel in October 2022. A judge sentenced him to life in prison. He is currently being held at Lieber Correctional Institute in Ridgeville.
