Structure near Gracewood Elementary School catches on fire

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The cause of a fire remains under investigation after the blaze heavily damaged an abandoned structure near Gracewood Elementary School.
The fire was reported at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday and a wood-sided building with a tin roof.
Despite being abandoned, the deteriorated building was full of items, firefighters reported.
Due to the condition of the structure and the materials inside it, crews at one point had to take a defensive approach – meaning the focus was to keep the fire from spreading to other properties.
The last unit didn’t leave the scene until about 12:30 p.m.
