S.C. Republican Party accuses Harris campaign of ‘illegal money grab’
GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The South Carolina Republican Party has ed a complaint to the Federal Election Commission regarding the transfer of money between President Joe Biden’s defunct reelection campaign and the new presidential campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris.
SC GOP is one of more than a dozen state parties claiming Harris’ team has misappropriated $96 million since she received the money from Biden’s campaign before being formally nominated at the Democratic National Convention.
“The law is clear: those funds were given to ‘Biden for President’, not ‘Harris for President’, or even ‘Biden-Harris’, and Joe Biden can’t simply give her 96 million dollars,” SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick said. “There is no t bank with a vice-presidential candidate until after they officially become the nominees of their Party. This was a blatant, illegal money grab, pure and simple.”
The Harris campaign, however, has fired back, accusing Republicans of being jealous of renewed energy by Democrats before the general election.
“Republicans may be jealous that Democrats are energized to defeat Donald Trump and his MAGA allies, but baseless legal claims – like the ones they’ve made for years to try to suppress votes and steal elections – will only distract them while we sign up volunteers, talk to voters, and win this election,” spokesperson Charles Kretchmer Lutvak said in a statement, according to CNN.
The Trump campaign has also filed an FEC complaint.
