89-year-old dies 3 days after traffic accident near USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An 89-year-old man died Saturday morning, three days after a traffic accident injured him in Aiken County.

Authorities said the crash occurred on Robert M. Bell Parkway near Trolley Line Road on Wednesday morning.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said David P. Emory died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday.

The accident happened at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, according to officials.

Crews have been busy over the past two weeks fighting several fires across Aiken County, the most recent on Tuesday night.

Officials with SCHP said a 2005 Ford coupe was traveling east on Robert M. Bell Parkway and a 1993 Buick sedan, driven by Emory, was traveling west on Robert M. Bell Parkway, attempting to turn left on Trolley Line Road when the Ford coupe hit the Buick sedan.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
