Do you know what shots your kids need for school in Ga., S.C.?
AUGUSTA, Ga. - As students return to school, parents will want to take steps to keep their kids healthy.
Jon Carter, the regional medical director for Roper ExpressCare in South Carolina, says the start of the school year always brings a major spike in sicknesses and doctor visits.
COVID cases have been rising, and experts predict that will continue as students come in with each other.
South Carolina’s tax-free weekend is coming up within days
During last year’s tax-free weekend, shoppers bought more than $30 million worth of items. That totaled $1.8 million they saved in sales tax. Will this year be even bigger?

Along with COVID, expect a jump in strep and flu cases.
Carter says kids need to keep their hands washed, have good nutrition and get lots of sleep to build up their immune system
“Follow up with your pediatrician about the vaccinations and when they are at school, remind them about handwashing and other good hygiene practices,” Carter said. “And when they are sick, keep them home.”
