MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Arrest warrants detail the moments leading up to a Myrtle Beach shooting that claimed the life of a teenager from Virginia.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department said 18-year-old Gary Jaquise Abraham, of Aiken, was arrested over the weekend and is charged with murder as well as three counts of attempted murder as well as a count of possession of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.

His dad, Gary Ulysses Abraham, was also arrested. He was charged with possession of a stolen weapon, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and two drug charges.

Arrest warrants state the dad was arrested during the execution of a lawful search warrant by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. Those documents state authorities found a stolen AR-style rifle, cocaine and marijuana in the home.

Public court records state he posted a $75,000 bond on July 28.

Gary Jaquise’s charges are linked to the July 20 death of Jakolbi Taylor, a 16-year-old from Virginia who was in the area for an AAU basketball tournament.

Arrest warrants state Gary Jaquise encountered Taylor and a group Taylor was with at the 16th Avenue North beach access. Those documents also state Gary Jaquise motioned for the group to follow him down to the beach.

That’s when Gary Jaquise allegedly took off a backpack he was wearing and opened fire. Taylor was hit multiple times and later died of his injuries. The moments when Gary Jaquise took off his backpack were also caught on camera, according to warrants.

EARLIER COVERAGE:

Warrants also state Gary Jaquise was identified by witnesses and “known associates who were present at the time of the incident.” Police were also told he was known to have a gun in his possession before, during and after the shooting and, according to warrants, “was known to carry a firearm inside his backpack.”

A separate witness also said the person shooting was wearing clothing that matched what Gary Jaquise was wearing.

Police said Gary Jaquise was taken into custody Saturday and appeared in court for a bond hearing on Sunday. A municipal court judge noted he could not set bond, and that that decision would instead have to come from a circuit court judge.

No date was set for his bond hearing in circuit court, but Gary Jaquise is scheduled for an initial appearance in Conway on Sept. 20.

The arrest warrants accuse Gary Jaquise of one count of murder, three counts of assault/attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Documents note that multiple people were seen running from the scene, but it’s unclear whether there are any more suspects or persons of interest in the case.

Taylor’s family released the following statement after news of Gary Jaquise’s arrest:

“I have some ease in knowing ‘someone’ is in custody. But it’s not just ‘someone’ whose actions have to be held able. It is a vagabond of heathens responsible, and as a group they are to be charged for the heinousness of their actions and brought to detention. I demand justice for the senseless blood that was shed from my innocent son. Until everyone responsible is captured, charged, and detained, my son won’t be fully justified, nor will my family have the closure we desperately seek.”
