1 local Conn’s, all Badcock stores closing due to bankruptcy
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A home goods, furniture and appliance retailer is shutting many stores, including several in the CSRA, after filing for bankruptcy.
Conn’s HomePlus filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Tuesday and announced it will close around half of its 170 stores, including one in Augusta at 596 Bobby Jones Expressway.
Caribou Coffee planning to open 2 locations in Augusta
Caribou Coffee is planning on opening two locations in Augusta, chain officials tell us. Construction will likely start in early fall with an anticipated opening date of early 2025, pending approval.

Conn’s is also the parent company of Badcock Home Furniture & more, which will close all its stores, the company said Monday.
Badcock stores affected include the Grovetown location at 5107 Wrightsboro Road, the Martinez location at 3241 Washington Road, the North Augusta location at 406 E. Martintown Road and the Aiken location at 3609 Richland Ave. West.

Badcock has more than 380 stores in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia.
According to its bankruptcy filing, Conn’s anticipates closing all locations of its Badcock and Conn’s stores, which employs about 3,800 full-time employees and 150 part-time employees.
Conn’s operates locations in 15 states, totaling 553 retail stores and 22 distribution and service facilities, the bankruptcy filing said, including its Badcock stores
Conn’s said it received a “Receipt of Delinquency Notification Letter” from Nasdaq last month because of a delay in filing its quarterly report.
The closures come after years of struggles within the retail industry, due to inflation and changes in shopping since the pandemic.
