AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The suspect arrested in the death of a 2-year-old has now been charged with murder, and arrest warrants for her give grim details on injuries the boy suffered.

Authorities said Wednesday that charges against Danashia McClennon, 20, were upgraded to murder after she was first charged with cruelty to children in the first degree in connection with the death of Rayshon Roberts, of Augusta.

Rayshon died at a hospital after rescuers were called July 24 to the 700 block of Cross Tree Court to respond to a possible drowning. Rescuers said the boy and his diaper were dry, but he was not responsive.

An arrest warrant alleges that while under McClennon’s care, the boy suffered “by means unknown” bruises on his head, ribs, chest, back and knees as well as severe internal injuries causing blood in his stool and urine.

One of the warrants alleges she left the boy alone in the bathtub, where he hit his head before falling face-first into the water “for an unknown period of time.”

The Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says he responded to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, Wellstar/MCG, where the boy was pronounced dead at 11:36 p.m. July 26.

Since then, Rayshon’s grandmother, Dorothy Bolton, has come forward, heartbroken and holding onto every memory she has of him.

“Quiet, bubbly. All he ever did was smile. He was never like when they say terrible two’s, they holler, want to tear up everything and get into everything. Never that type. Never that type. He was always a quiet baby. Wanna hug up on you be up under you he just wanted to be comfortable,” said Bolton.

“I sit here. For three days, I didn’t eat, I didn’t sleep. And I would just cry for no reason. I would just cry and cry and cry,” said Bolton.

An autopsy was scheduled.

A firefighter told authorities that when he arrived, a woman was trying to give R to the child.

The firefighter said the woman itted she’d left the child unattended in a bathtub for about 10 minutes and when she returned to check on him, he was face down in the water.

The child’s mother, who authorities found in the pediatric intensive-care unit, said she’d allowed a female to take care of the child and had received a call from the woman that the child had been taken to a hospital.
