Suspect sought in 2023 murder of mom on East Taylor Street

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Richmond County deputies on Wednesday released the name of a suspect – a man with a criminal record of violence – they’re seeking in the murder of a 29-year-old mother last year on East Taylor Street.

Shawn Antonio Walker, 44, is wanted for murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The warrants were issued in the May 22, 2023, shooting that killed Shaneikwa LaFavor and injured an 11-year-old child and a man.

He has a violent past and has been in and out of jail and prison for years, according to his criminal record.

His offenses include firing a gun into a car back in 1999, firing a gun into a house in 2004, and hitting someone in the head with a gun in 2012.

He was also convicted of simple battery in 2001 for hitting and kicking a woman.

He has violated his probation and has been arrested for that, too.

That’s all in addition to that active warrant from 2019 where he’s accused of shooting someone and now this new murder charge.

Authorities released a photo of Walker, who’s five feet and seven inches in height and weighs around 170 pounds. He’s known to frequent the East Boundary area and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to deputies.

LaFavor’s death was part of a more than two-year outbreak of violent crime that continues to this day. So far, more than 170 people have lost their lives.
