UGA wide receiver Rara Thomas kicked off team after latest arrest
ATHENS, Ga. - University of Georgia wide receiver Rodarius “Rara” Thomas is no longer with the team following his latest arrest last week, head coach Kirby Smart announced Thursday.
Athens-Clarke County jail records show Thomas was booked Friday on felony charges of cruelty to children and misdemeanor battery charges.
After arrests, cops share details on drowning of Augusta 2-year-old
A man was arrested Wednesday after police believe he broke into a Stone Mountain Chick-fil-A in early July, grappling with an employee before running off.

It was the second arrest for Thomas in two years.
Thomas was also arrested in January 2023, the same semester he transferred to UGA from Mississippi State, on charges of false imprisonment and family violence that have since been dropped.
Thomas’ latest arrest follows a string of other UGA football players who have been booked in jail in recent years, primarily for speeding or reckless driving. At the Southeastern Conference media days on July 16, UGA football coach Kirby Smart said several players have been suspended or fined.
Court blocks Title IX gender-identity changes at Ga., S.C. schools
A federal appeals court temporarily blocked a Title IX from taking effect Thursday in South Carolina and Georgia.

“The incidents that have been happening off the field are not something we condone,” he said. “It’s very unfortunate, disappointing, I guess is the best word.”
Smart said players have been suspended and fined through the collective that provides name, image and likeness payments to the school’s athletes. Smart’s policy is to not make public announcements when players are suspended. A team official confirmed the suspension of Thomas.
