Augusta-area students say goodbye to summer and hello to school
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Several counties in the CSRA are saying goodbye to summer and hello to a new school year on Monday.
Last week was full of open houses at the elementary, middle and high schools in both counties, while parents stocked up on school supplies.

And now the big week is here.
At Westmont Elementary School, parents were seen dropping off their students at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.
This is a temporary location for the next week until construction is finished on the new school.
While it’s a big change, one mom says she and her daughter are still very excited.
“I have a first grader. She’s so excited, despite being able to start at the new school. But she’s excited to be at the performing arts center because it’s so big and so fun,” said Sera Boisvert, a parent.

The school districts are ready.
“A lot of cleaning and sanitizing and preparation for the new school year. Our IT department made sure that our computers were refreshed and upgraded. Our custodians emptied out every single classroom in our building, and they cleaned it from top to bottom, I’m dusting from the ceiling tiles all the way down to stripping and then re waxing the floors,” said Grovetown Elementary Principal Valerie Allen.
Meanwhile, the Richmond County school superintendent says he is looking forward to a very exciting year for students.
“I believe all summer we have been spending the entire summer preparing our teachers to receive our students. The s are ready, and I think this is going to be one of our best school years ever,” said Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw.
