Columbia County schools address fake image on social media

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Columbia County School officials want you to know they are aware of fake image going around on social media surrounding school closures for the first day of school on Aug. 5.

The district wants to ensure you the information is false. As of right now, there will be school on Aug. 5.

Schools set to welcome kids in Richmond, Columbia counties

Kids will be back in the classroom this week in Richmond and Columbia counties.

Columbia County School District leaders released this statement regarding the fake image: “The Columbia County School District is aware of a fake image circulating on social media containing false information regarding school closures. The information in the image is false. In the event of school closures parents will be notified directly and the information posted on our district and school websites.”

New Westmont Elementary will not be ready for kids when school starts

When students come to Westmont Elementary in Columbia County, they’ll be in a brand-new school. But that won’t be this week, because the school isn’t ready yet.

Construction continues on Westmont Elementary in Evans.

Some CSRA school districts are planning to cancel classes for at least some days this week because of the anticipated effects of Tropical Storm Debby.

But as of right now, the Columbia County School District isn’t one of them.
