Big Lots is closing hundreds of stores, including 3 in the CSRA
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The discount retailer Big Lots is clo to 315 locations nationwide, including three in the CSRA.
These local stores are slated for closure:
- Thomson: 687 Main St.
- Aiken, 1016 Pine Log Road.
- Waynesboro: 263 S. Liberty St.
The chain has several other stores across the CSRA, including in Augusta, Evans and North Augusta, which are staying open.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a months-old baby who was found unresponsive at the Budget Inn early Tuesday.

The closures were revealed in an updated Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
Each location that is closing has a 20% off banner on its respective store web page.
Big Lots is facing an existential crisis amid plunging sales.
Net sales decreased $114.5 million in the first quarter of 2024, or 10.2%, compared to the same time last year.
Missing Augusta woman found dead in metro Atlanta
Family of a missing Augusta woman say her body has been found in a car in an Atlanta-area parking lot.

Big Lots said it “experienced decreased comps and net sales in all of our merchandise categories.”
It comes amid a shakeup in the retail industry, with Conn’s declaring bankruptcy and closing many of its stores, including one in Augusta, and all its Badcock & More furniture stores.
Columbus, Ohio-based Big Lots operates more than 1,300 stores in 48 states, as well as an e-commerce store.
