You can help this Aiken animal shelter by becoming a foster
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Friends of the Animal Shelter in Aiken County needs your help because they’ve once again reached capacity.
Even if you are not ready to welcome a new pet into your life, the county shelter could use fosters, even if it’s just for a few days.
The FOTAS program coordinator says that not only are they seeing more animals come in as the county grows, but last week’s tropical storm did not help, either.
New program aims to lower kill rates at Augusta Animal Services
The Augusta Animal Shelter is hoping to bring down its euthanasia rate. ‘Save a Pet Monday’ is a part of the plan.

“Just this past week with the storm, we had a line of dogs and cats being brought in, and we just didn’t have a place for them. So, we had to convert our kennels into two instead of one. So, we had a line of dogs in outside kennels, and with the weather coming in, it really breaks your heart. We worry about these guys,” said Kathy Cagle.
Cagle says in July, the Aiken County Animal Shelter took in more than 500 dogs and cats.
That’s an average of 22 per day.
She says staff and volunteers are working around the clock to assist the animals, but any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
