ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Cobb County grand jury has handed down a six-count indictment against the man accused of shooting and killing a Kennesaw State University student in May.

Samuel Harris faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying weapons within certain school areas and tampering with evidence. One of the murder counts and the last two charges weren’t included upon Harris’ original arrest and are new to the indictment.

On May 18, Harris allegedly shot and killed Alasia Franklin at the campus’ Austin Residence Complex, prompting a shelter-in-place order from the school. He was arrested shortly after the shooting at an apartment complex in Marietta and remains in Cobb County Jail with no bond, according to jail records.

The indictment claims Harris “altered and concealed” physical evidence, including Franklin’s cell phone and car, but did not go into detail.

Those who knew Franklin described her as an outgoing and caring person who wanted to be a nurse.

“She was very determined. Her purpose was to speak up for people who were afraid to speak up for themselves,” said her friend Anthony Harrison, who worked with Franklin in student government.

Harris was not a Kennesaw State University student. The Kennesaw State University Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are still investigating the incident.
