EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Westmont Elementary School will be opening up next week, the Columbia County School District said Friday.

The newly built school wasn’t open for the start of the school year, so students started out by meeting at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center for most of the first two weeks.

Then on Friday, they met at the district department complex for a field trip, rotating between learning stations.

At the new school, construction crews have been working on last-minute projects at the campus, although construction has been going on for a couple of years.

This isn’t the first time construction of a new school has continued until the last minute or even beyond.
