How the Ga. Department of Public Health grades restaurants
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - If you’ve dined in or carried out food in the past week, did you think to check the restaurant’s report from the Department of Public Health?
The environmental health specialists from the Georgia Department of Public Health inspect each establishment routinely, twice a year. These inspections assess food safety and overall cleanliness. Restaurants are given a score out of 100. Anything below 70 is considered failing.

More nests of the invasive and bee-killing yellow-legged hornet have been found in recent days in Georgia and South Carolina.
Aside from the overall score, there are two more major things to look for in a restaurant’s posted report. Check out the “risk factor” section and also look for any “out of compliance” areas.
If a restaurant fails an inspection, first, the owner is provided with a detailed report of each violation.
Distracted driving blamed for over half of crashes in Georgia
A new report from the Georgia Office of Highway Safety underscores the importance of focusing on the conditions around you when you drive.
If some violations are considered “critical,” the establishment is given 24-72 hours to correct them. Next, a follow-up inspection takes place roughly 10 days after the initial inspection, to ensure the establishment has maintained correction of the critical violations. If the restaurant has not corrected these violations, they may be closed temporarily until they can a re-inspection.
Inspection scores and reports are public, and posted in restaurants and through the Georgia Department of Public Health’s online portal.
