AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The results are in for a friendly competition among CSRA blood donors, and the Bulldogs prevailed.

Shepeard Community Blood Center partnered with Chick-fil-A for the second annual Donation Domination.

The event pitted Georgia Bulldog and Clemson Tiger fans against each other to see who could donate the most blood leading up to the game. Each donor got to choose one team. The team with the most votes at the end of the week earned bragging rights.

West Nile strikes in Augusta as cases soar with mosquitoes

Cases of West Nile virus are growing across the state – including in Augusta. And it probably won’t get better, considering the boom in mosquitoes fueled by the standing water Tropical Storm Debby brought.

A Charleston-area hospital has confirmed it has treated two people for the West Nile Virus.

And those bragging rights went to the Georgia Bulldogs with 1,554 points. Clemson got 624 points, the blood bank said Friday night.

All participating donors received a Donation Domination T-shirt and a voucher for a free sandwich from Chick-fil-A.

“Whether you bleed red and black or orange and purple, your blood can be used to save a life right here in the CSRA,” says Shepeard CEO Benjamin Prijatel. “We need all blood types to help the many local patients who need blood in our area.”

The need for blood donors continues. A complete list of locations can be found at https://shepeardblood.org.
