‘My soul is gone’: Mom’s nightmare comes true after deadly Blythe crash
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A mother’s heartbreak and search for answers 10 days after a fiery crash on Deans Bridge Road took the lives of her two young sons.
The crash happened after a Blythe police officer tried to pull over the car the teens were engers in, which led to a chase.
Their car hit a truck head-on and burst into flames.
Three people died, including 15-year-old Barry Fields and 13-year-old Casey Fields.
Now, their mother faces a harsh reality.
“I I woke up one day having four children,” said Shakeila Hicks-Scott. “I wake up now and have two.”
Now, Hicks-Scott only has pictures and memories of two of her children.
A year later, Wrens re slain 19-year-old
The community came together to celebrate the life of 19-year-old Khia Shield, who was shot and killed in her home in Wrens a year ago.

It’s an unimaginable pain that this family is dealing with. It’s hard to imagine losing two children in an instant.
She says a mother’s intuition kicked in when she didn’t hear from two of her children. She went to look for them and found her fears turned into a reality.
“I feel dead on the inside like my soul is gone. My soul is gone,” she said.
When she didn’t hear from them, she retraced their steps and came across the crash on Deans Bridge Road.
“I ran back up the highway on feet, and I started telling him, ‘I’m looking for three boys, my car is this color, I haven’t heard from them,’” said Hicks-Scott.
Due to the nature of the scene, there hasn’t been an official ID by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office. Scott says law enforcement told her based on her description, it’s likely her children.
“My children and my boys have never been in a situation where I couldn’t save them,” she said. “They have never been in a situation where I don’t know where they at.”
North Carolina man killed after crashing into 18-wheeler in Thomson
A 27-year-old was killed after hitting an 18-wheeler on I-20, the McDuffie County Coroner announced Monday.

Hicks-Scott says she’s waiting for answers that she already knows the answers to.
She’s holding her other two children even tighter while holding onto the memories she has with Barry and Casey.
“Before mine left me, they told me, ‘Mom, I love you. I love you, Mom.’ That’s all I got to hold on to because that was the last words they told me, that they love me,” said Hicks-Scott.
She’s hoping no other parents have to bear the pain of losing multiple children.
“Love your children while they’re here. Hug them every day because you never know when will be the last time that you’re going to see your child,” she said.
Casey just turned 13 on Aug. 11, and Barry was supposed to turn 16 this past Saturday.
Instead of getting to celebrate her children’s birthdays, Hicks-Scott is now planning their funeral for them.
