Baby formula giveaway extended due to high demand
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - For millions of babies, formula is their only source of nutrition.
For parents facing high costs from housing to groceries, cutting baby formula out is just not possible.
The Augusta Partnership for Children says they understand this need, which is why the formula giveaway is getting an extension.
Every Wednesday for the month of August, Augusta Partnership for Children has been giving away baby formula.
They say the need is so great they’ve decided to extend the giveaway for the month of September.
They’ve gave away nearly 200 cans in 12 hours.
“It was very successful,” said Patrice Canty, first steps coordinator for Augusta Partnership for Children.
Richmond County board approve millage rate increase
The Richmond County School System has approved to increase the millage rate on Tuesday.

Now, they’re hoping to make an even larger impact for the month of September.
“It was just like, we just can’t stop it for the month of August,” she said. “We have to continue it on because we have to help the families fill in the gaps.”
Augusta Partnership for Children says no matter the price, they just want to help.
“Imagine the price of food going up, the price of gas going up, the price of living going up and then you have to pay $40 for a can of milk for your baby,” said Ca.
Canty says for babies who are hypoallergenic, a can of formula could cost anywhere from $60-70.
“So imagine you spent $60 and your baby really can’t eat that,” said Canty. “Now, you got to continue to spend another amount of money to find the formula that your baby really needs.”
Family, community seek justice 1 year after 19-year-old’s death
This week will mark one year since a 19-year-old was shot and killed in her home in Wrens.

Instead of spending money on what would be a sample, Canty says parents can come to them instead.
“Because they’re not going to get refunds at the grocery store,” she said.
No matter the circumstance they can help.
“It’s nothing like no, you make too much or you make too less. If their baby is hungry, come in, and we’re going to do our best to give that baby what that baby needs,” said Canty.
They say that no one should have to choose between rent and feeding their child.
Augusta Partnership for Children says they’re always looking for volunteers.
