Gun reported at bus stop in Augusta, middle school parents learn

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A student was spotted with a gun at a bus stop earlier this week, according to the Richmond County School System.

It happened Tuesday, according to a letter sent to parents Wednesday from Richmond Hill Middle School Principal Kimberly Rouse.

“Students witnessed another student with a gun in their possession after being dropped off at the bus stop after school,” the letter stated.

The incident is being addressed by the Richmond County School System police in accordance with the code of student conduct and discipline, Rouse said.

Richmond County board approve millage rate increase

The Richmond County School System has approved to increase in the millage rate. The school board increased the rate by more than 13% — from 16.493 mills to 18.33 mills.

It comes after a gun was found last Thursday at Cross Creek High School, which happened days after multiple weapons were found last week in Augusta schools, gunfire outside the Laney High School football stadium halted a game.
