17-year-old injured in Wrens shooting near Pine Valley Apartments
WRENS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A teenager suffered a gunshot wound early Thursday in Wrens – the latest in an outbreak of violence that’s hit the town of less than 2,500 people, according to authorities.
Wrens Police Chief John Maynard said that just before 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of the Pine Valley Apartments to investigate a shooting.

A suspect has taken a plea deal in a 2021 shooting that killed one man and injured others at a Dowell Avenue apartment in Waynesboro.

Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound to the upper arm area, officers say.
Authorities say the victim was transported to the WellStar MCG hospital in Augusta by ambulance.
Several vehicles and at least one apartment were struck by the gunfire, according to officers.
Officers are actively working on the investigation, but neither the victim nor witnesses have come forward with any details on a possible shooter, description or motives for the shooting.

Gun reported at bus stop in Augusta, middle school parents learn
A student was spotted with a gun at a bus stop earlier this week, according to the Richmond County School System.

The shooting comes amid an outbreak of violent crime that’s killed more than 170 people across the CSRA since April 2022. Communities large and small have been affected.
Wrens, with a population a little over 2,200, has not been immune:
- In early July, 16-year-old Sadiq Brown was fatally shot in Wrens.
- On July 24, a 16-year-old girl was injured in a shooting on Howard Street near its intersection with Planer Street.
- Just this week, the family of 19-year-old Khia Shields has been marking the one-year anniversary of her shooting death in Wrens.
Authorities have blamed much of the problem across the CSRA on gangs, and many of the victims and suspects have been young men.
