AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Gwen Walz, the first lady of Minnesota and wife of the Democratic vice presidential candidate, is in Augusta this week to meet with educators, volunteers and voters.
This trip will be Walz’s first visit to Georgia since her husband was selected as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate.
The First Lady of Minnesota spoke about the economy, abortion rights and education.
The Minnesota teacher says it is important for teachers to stick together during the election.
“Teachers you know how you put your plans together? You don’t waste a second, you plan it all out so I am asking you to share that idea with some of the people around you because every single minute counts don’t waste a second we need you to all of us to do the work that’s in front of all of us,” said Walz.
On Thursday, she hosted an Educators for Harris-Walz event, a community gathering for military families, and a postcard event with campaign volunteers.
On Friday, she hosted two events.
Walz visited Buona Cafe as the last stop in her trip before heading to Charlotte, North Carolina.
“I’m here to thank you. I’m here to ask that you do all you can, and another thing is I came to be inspired,” she said.

In Atlanta
In her quest to become the nation’s first female president and first woman of color chief executive, Vice President Kamala Harris was be in Atlanta on Friday.
The Harris presidential campaign confirmed her appearance, and said the Democratic presidential nominee’s focus will be on reproductive care.
The issue of abortion has become a central issue in the 2024 presidential election. Harris has repeatedly criticized former President Donald Trump for appointing U.S. Supreme Court justices who were in favor of overturning what once was the nation’s landmark abortion law, Roe v. Wade.
In 2022, Roe v. Wade was overturned in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, in which the nation’s highest court held the U.S. constitution does not confer the right to an abortion.
